Liability insurance - Essay Example A nurse having this insurance is important because for every act or service provided there is a liability attached to it. This comes about when one neither is he or she a private contractor nor employed for the job (Catolico, 2014). The employer’s malpractice insurance only covers when one is in the position as an employee and this is the instance a person can be responsible when he or she makes a decision beyond employment scope (Catolico, 2014). This insurance package covers voluntary and off job services in cases of emergency (Catolico, 2014). For instance, a neighbor’s child falls sick and since one is a nurse, the parent of the affected will seek the nurse’s opinion. This prompts one respond by either giving a recommendation or treating the child because he or she is nurse (Catolico, 2014). The moment one helps as a nurse then the patient-nurse relationship forms, onwards, the practitioner is responsible for every decision he or she makes regarding the patient’s wellbeing. This is not to discourage but to inform a person of one’s scope as a nurse, which should not bar him or she stop helping voluntarily.
